Fruitful results: Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Joseph Wong says ITU Telecom World 2006 has generated $400 million for the hotel industry.
*

Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Joseph Wong says ITU Telecom World 2006 has generated about $400 million for the hotel industry, and will likely generate $900 million for Hong Kong's coffers.

After the event closed today, Mr Wong said the average hotel occupancy rate during the exhibition period was about 90%. However, he expects the event to also bring longer-term benefits.

"For example, this event has highlighted the importance of Hong Kong in organising one of the biggest exhibition and conference events. It has also highlighted the fact that Hong Kong is a very important gateway to China," he said.
