Re-exports of goods up 7.1%

September's tally: Hong Kong's goods re-exports grew 7.1% on the same month last year.

September saw Hong Kong's goods re-exports grow 7.1% on the same month last year, while domestic exports shrank 22.5%, the Census & Statistics Department says. Taken together, the volume of total goods exports grew 5.1%. Concurrently, the volume of imports grew 6.4%.

 

The month saw the volume of domestic exports of electronic components and clothing fall 45.2% and 40.5%, while the volume of domestic exports of manufactured metal, and office machines and equipment grew by 45.9% and 21%.

 

Comparing the first nine months of 2006 with the same period last year, the volume of Hong Kong's goods re-exports grew 9.3%, while that of domestic exports rose 16.4%. Taken together, the volume of total goods exports grew 9.7%. Concurrently, the volume of goods imports grew 9.5%.

 

Comparing the third quarter with the preceding quarter on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports grew 6.4%. Within this total, the volume of re-exports grew 7.4%, while domestic exports fell 8.9%. Concurrently, the volume of goods imports rose 4.3%.

 

Comparing September with the same month last year, the prices of goods re-exports grew 1.8%, while those of domestic exports fell 1.1%. Taken together, the prices of total goods exports grew 1.7%. Concurrently, the prices of goods imports rose 2.7%.
