Open for business: Chengdu Trade & Economic Office Director Richard Luk meets Sichuan provincial officials outside the Sichuan Development and Reform Commission's premises.

The Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Chengdu opened today to promote closer ties with the south-western region of the Mainland.

Director Richard Luk said the office will first focus on ties between officials and trade and economic organisations in Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Shaanxi and Chongqing, and Hong Kong businesspeople. It will also encourage Mainland enterprises to invest in Hong Kong.

Mr Luk and Deputy Director Phidias Tam visited Sichuan Development & Reform Commission Deputy Director Li Yaping and Sichuan Provincial Project Office for Foreign Investment Director Xu Shusheng today.

Mr Luk will meet officials from the Sichuan Provincial Department of Commerce and attend the National Day celebrations hosted by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government.
