Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland for outward processing in this year's second quarter grew 11% on the same period last year, to $110.4 billion.
The Census & Statistics Department said today the value of domestic exports and re-exports to the Mainland for outward processing rose 4% and 12%, to $5.9 billion and $104.5 billion.
The value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing surged 14% to $186.5 billion. Another $195.8 billion of Hong Kong's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing in the Mainland, representing 5% growth.
In the second quarter 40% of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing - 57% for domestic exports and 39% for re-exports. Meanwhile, 66% of Hong Kong's imports from the Mainland were related to outward processing, and 82% of Hong Kong's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the Mainland.
The corresponding proportions for exports to the Mainland in the same period last year were 39% for total exports, 53% for domestic exports and 38% for re-exports. The proportions for imports from the Mainland and for re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were 64% and 79%.
