Phone guide: The Mobile Host service allows visitors to find instant information on shopping, dining, entertainment and sightseeing via a mobile phone.

Visitors can now find instant information on shopping, dining, entertainment and sightseeing in Hong Kong via mobile phone thanks to the Tourism Board's Mobile Host service.

Launched in co-operation with five mobile phone networks, the revolutionary scheme offers a dial-up audio guide to the city.

Operating on GSM handsets, the service offers lively, tailored and up-to-the-minute information in Cantonese, English and Putonghua.

Visitors can choose to purchase a 3-day pass at $60, which offers unlimited audio access to the service using a roaming SIM-card without incurring any additional charges, or simply dial up on a call-by-call basis at prevailing airtime rates.

Residents can also use the service.

Visitors using roaming services can listen to a free promo by dialling *4582, while those using local SIM-cards can access Hong Kong Mobile Host by calling *454.
