Exchange Fund foreign assets up $5.2b

Foreign assets, representing the external assets of the Exchange Fund, amounted to $939.5 billion at the end of July, up $5.2 billion on June, the Monetary Authority says.

 

The Monetary Base, comprising Certificates of Indebtedness, Government issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the Aggregate Balance of the banking system and Exchange Fund Bills and Notes issued, amounted to $287.2 billion.

 

Claims on the private sector in Hong Kong amounted to $51.6 billion, while foreign liabilities, representing mainly obligations under repurchase agreements, amounted to $1.7 billion.
