Q2 restaurant receipts up 11.1%
*
Census & Statistics Department

The value of total receipts for the restaurants sector was $14.9 billion in the second quarter this year, up 11.1% on the same quarter in 2005. Over the same period, the value of restaurants' total purchases grew 9.2%, to $5 billion.

Releasing the provisional figures today, the Census & Statistics Department said total restaurant receipts rose 9.7% in volume in the second quarter as compared to a year earlier after discounting the effect of price changes.

Analysed by restaurant type, Chinese restaurants' total receipts grew 11.9% in value or 10.2% in volume, while total receipts of non-Chinese restaurants grew 12.7% in value or 12% in volume.

The second quarter also saw fast-food shops' total receipts rise 9% in value or 7.3% in volume.

Receipts of miscellaneous eating and drinking places rose 5.3% in value or 3.1% in volume. Bar receipts rose 3.2% in value or 3.7% in volume.

On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, the volume of total restaurant receipts in the second quarter this year rose 3.1%.
