The Commerce, Industry & Technology Bureau welcomes legal action by the broadcasting industry against bars showing World Cup matches via unlicensed foreign satellite television services, saying it will facilitate copyright owners in their cases.

The Cable & Satellite Broadcasting Association of Asia, FIFA and Hong Kong Cable Television are taking the action.

People who import, export or supply decoders for receiving foreign satellite pay television services not licensed in Hong Kong are breaching the Copyright Ordinance.
