The Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to Canara Bank, taking effect on July 19.

 

The bank was incorporated in India in 1906. According to the July 2005 issue of The Bankers, Canara was the country's third largest bank in terms of total assets.

 

The grant brings the number of licensed banks in Hong Kong to 135.
