There were 959 bankruptcy petitions presented in May, up 18.4% from the April figure of 810, and up 15.8% compared with last year's average monthly figure of 828.
The Official Receiver's Office said the court made 1,048 bankruptcy orders during the month, up 69.6% from the previous month's figure of 618, and a rise of 28.1% on the average monthly figure of 818 last year.
