Financial Secretary Henry Tang concluded his first official visit to New Zealand today meeting opposition leader Dr Don Brash in Wellington.
They exchanged views on the fiscal health of Hong Kong and New Zealand and other opportunities and challenges shared by the two economies.
Mr Tang then attended a luncheon meeting hosted by New Zealand Reserve Bank Governor Dr Alan Bollard. He told the bank's senior management Hong Kong's economy had returned to a solid growth path with an impressive GDP growth of 8.2% in the first quarter.
Mr Tang left Wellington this afternoon for Melbourne, where he starts the Australian leg of his 10-day visit to Australasia.
In Melbourne tomorrow, he will call on Victorian political leaders in both the administration and opposition and attend a boardroom luncheon hosted by Melbourne Lord Mayor John So.
Mr Tang will then speak to 100 Hong Kong students and deliver a keynote address at a dinner organised by the Asia Society Australasia Centre.
