Chief's brief: Chief Executive Donald Tsang meets Vice-President Zeng Qinghong in Hainan on Friday and updates him on Hong Kong's news and developments.

Vice President Zeng Qinghong is satisfied with Hong Kong's recent performance and has expressed confidence in the city's future economic prospects, Chief Executive Donald Tsang says.

Mr Tsang today met the Vice President and Hong Kong & Macau Affairs Office Director Liao Hui in Boao, Hainan, to give an update on the city's latest developments.

The Chief Executive told them the stock market and tourism industry in particular have performed well, and the city's political and social atmosphere is stable.

Speaking to the media this afternoon, Mr Tsang said both officials are satisfied with Hong Kong's overall performance and urged Hong Kong people to focus on the city's economic development.

More PPRD province visits on cards

Despite Hong Kong's recent buoyancy, Mr Tsang said Hong Kong people must not be complacent. They should continue to work hard to boost the city's economic activities and create more business and job opportunities.

He told the pair he would visit more provinces within the Pearl River Delta, to further economic activities in Hong Kong.

Asked about Hong Kong journalist Ching Cheong, Mr Tsang said he had expressed local concerns during his talks with Mr Liao.

He quoted Mr Liao as saying he understands the concerns, and Mainland authorities are actively proceeding with the case in accordance with the Mainland's legal process.

Election Committee poll a priority

Mr Tsang said it is still too early to say whether he will run for re-election next year. He said the Government's primary goal now is to ensure the Election Committee's election will be run in a fair and just manner.

On President Hu Jintao's visit to the US, Mr Tsang said the meeting between the two nation's leaders will deepen the two countries' financial relations and create a better global economic and political environment .
