193 projects get $660m in funding support

*

Good progress has been made in fostering technology co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangdong, Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Joseph Wong says after concluding his visit to Guangdong today.

The two governments have supported 193 projects with total funding of about $660 million under the Hong Kong/Guangdong Technology Co-operation Funding Scheme in the last two years, he said.

The funding scheme will continue in 2006 and the Innovation & Technology Commission and the Guangdong Provincial Government's Department of Science & Technology are discussing the details.

During his visit, Mr Wong met with Guangdong Executive Vice Governor Tang Bingquan and Guangzhou Vice Mayor Chen Mingde.

He also toured the 99th Chinese Export Commodities Fair at the Guangzhou International Conference & Exhibition Centre, and visited two Hong Kong enterprises in the Guangzhou Economic & Technological Development District.
