Edward Chen reappointed trade body head

Trade & Industry Department

Lingnan University President Professor Edward Chen has been reappointed chairman of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Co-operation, the Trade & Industry Department says. Eight academics, four businessmen and two government officials have also been appointed.

All appointments are for two years, from April 1.

Established in 1990, the committee comprises business leaders, academics and government officials, who advise the Government on matters related to Hong Kong's participation in the Pacific Economic Co-operation Council. The council, tripartite in nature, serves as an independent forum for discussing trade and economic issues, and fostering closer economic co-operation.

The department said it is very pleased that Professor Chen will continue to chair. The Government is confident that, under his leadership, the committee will contribute constructively to economic co-operation in the region.
