More views on future power market urged
*

About a hundred submissions on the future electricity market consultation have been received so far, Secretary for Economic Development & Labour Stephen Ip says, urging more people to submit their views by March 31.

He said the Government has a good working relationship with Hong Kong's two power companies, and will listen to their views.

"Recently we had a motion debate in the Legislative Council. We are fully aware of members' views on the electricity market. We have also made very clear in our consultation document that reliability of power supply is very important," Mr Ip said.

"It is equally important to make sure that electricity tariffs will be lower. On the environmental side, we expect the two power companies to do more to reduce emissions. It is also our aim to open up the electricity market in the near future."
