Joseph Wong to attend Davos WTO meeting
*

Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology Joseph Wong will leave for Davos, Switzerland, today to attend the first WTO informal ministerial meeting after the successful conclusion of the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference.

With the aim of concluding the Doha Development Agenda by the end of 2006, ministers attending the meeting will follow up on the agreements in the Hong Kong Ministerial Declaration which was adopted on December 18 at the Hong Kong meeting.

Ministers will work to meet the target date of the end of April to firm up agriculture agreements and issues relating to industrial tariffs. They will also discuss services negotiations and other major negotiating areas under the Doha Development Agenda.

The informal ministerial meeting on January 27 and 28 is being held on the sidelines of the annual World Economic Forum meeting.

Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong on January 29.
