Transport sector receipts up 25%

*
Census & Statistics Department

Total receipts, including business receipts and other income, of the whole transport sector rose 25% in 2004 over a year earlier to $375.9 billion, the Census & Statistics Department says.

The gross surplus of the whole transport sector, which is equal to total receipts less operating expenses and compensation of employees, grew 19.4% to $49.6 billion. The gross surplus accounted for 13.2% of total receipts in 2004.

The value added of the whole transport sector, which is a measure of its contribution to GDP, amounted to $99.2 billion, up 13.7%.

The four largest major industry groups in terms of value added in 2004 were (1) air transport, (2) land passenger transport, (3) services incidental to transport, and (4) ocean and coastal water transport. They together accounted for 83.6% of the total value added of the whole sector.
