Che Kung fair-stall auction set for Nov 23

Food & Environmental Hygiene Department

Che Kung Festival Fair stalls will be auctioned at Sha Tin Town Hall on November 23, the Food & Environmental Hygiene Department says.

The opening prices of the 44 dry goods stalls and four wet goods stalls are $2,450 and $770.

The annual fair will be staged at Chui Tin Street Soccer Pitch in Sha Tin from January 26 to February 12.

It commemorates the legendary Che Kung, a Sung Dynasty general who became an immortal and was elevated to a Taoist deity after he saved the inhabitants of Sha Tin Valley in the New Territories from a plague.

This centuries-old tradition is celebrated by thousands of believers who flock to his temple near the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Sha Tin Racecourse to wish him happy birthday on the second or the third day of Lunar New Year.

Many seeking Che Kung's good fortune visit the temple to consult fortune-tellers, who turn a fan-bladed wheel of fortune three times to ensure good luck in the coming year.
