Business boost: The value of restaurant receipts rose 6.2% in the third quarter over a year earlier. |
This year's third quarter saw a 6.2% year-on-year surge in the value of restaurant receipts, to $14.3 billion, the Census & Statistics Department says. The value of restaurant purchases also rose 5.4% to $4.9 billion.
After discounting the effect of price changes, total restaurant receipts rose 5.2% in volume over a year earlier.
Analysed by type of restaurant, total receipts of Chinese eateries grew 7.5% in value or 6% in volume. Total receipts of fast food shops grew 5.4% in value or 4.5% in volume, while that of non-Chinese restaurants surged 5.2% in value or 5.1% in volume.
Total receipts of bars grew 2.1% in value or 1.6% in volume. As for miscellaneous eating and drinking places, total receipts rose 0.3% in value, but dipped 1.1% in volume.
On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison, the volume of total restaurant receipts in the third quarter grew 2.4% when compared to the second. Taking this year's first three quarters together, total restaurant receipts grew 5.6% in value or 4.9% in volume over a year earlier.
