Support for SMEs expanded
*
Trade & Industry Department

The Support & Consultation Centre for small and medium enterprises, offering an array of free, reliable and practical consultation and business information services, has been expanded and strengthened, the Trade & Industry Department says.

Since its inception in November 2001, the centre is the first stop for SMEs to look for free business support. As the centre has been well received by the business community, the department will expand its capacity with more space and resources to serve more SMEs.

New facilities

New facilities have been installed, including more comprehensive information services for potential business start-ups, more computers for access to business databases and a display area for non-profit making organisations to publicise their services to SMEs.

On business information, the centre provides:

* comprehensive information on the Government licensing and certification requirements for running different kinds of business in Hong Kong;

* a user-friendly website which is a ready source of information on SME services and facilities;

* free access to business electronic databases;

* a wide collection of business reference materials; and,

* a regular publication SME Pulse with articles on topical issues.

Extra services

The centre also organises seminars, workshops and other activities to help broaden SMEs' business knowledge and enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

On consultation services, SMEs seeking professional and expert advice may apply for the "Meet-the-Advisers" Business Advisory Service or join the SME Mentorship Programme.

The centre is located on the M/F of the Trade & Industry Department Tower, 700 Nathan Road, Mong Kok. For enquiries call 2398 5133 or email success@tid.gov.hk.
