Schemes authorised under the Code on Unit Trusts & Mutual Funds are allowed to invest in listed real estate investment trusts, the Securities & Futures Commission announced today.

The commission said during the one-month consultation period conducted in February, the eight responses received were unanimously in support of the proposal to allow schemes authorised under the Code to invest in listed REITs.

The proposed amendments to the Code, as stated in the consultation paper, were incorporated into the Code and became effective when they were published in the Gazette today.

SFC-authorised schemes will now be able to invest in REITs that are listed on a stock exchange, the commission said, adding this will broaden the investment choice of SFC-authorised schemes.
