Outward processing exports up 24%

About $105.9 billion of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland in this year's third quarter were for outward processing, up 24% over a year earlier, the Census & Statistics Department says.

 

The value of domestic exports to the Mainland for outward processing dipped 1% to $6.5 billion while the value of re-exports rose sharply, by 26% to $98.9 billion.

 

The value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing grew 15% to $181.2 billion, while $183.3 billion of the city's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the Mainland, up 13%.

 

In the first nine months of the year, $278.6 billion of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing, up 19% over the same period of last year.  The value of domestic exports to the Mainland for outward processing fell 4% to $18 billion while re-exports rose 21% to $260.6 billion.

 

The value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing rose 17% to $472.8 billion, while $497.9 billion of the city's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the Mainland, up 14%.
