252 extra flights set for holiday period

Airport
Air traffic control: January 2 will be the airport's busiest day with 605 flights scheduled.

Hong Kong International Airport will have an extra 252 passenger flights during the festive season, December 17 to January 3, up 11.5% on last year.

 

The busiest day will be January 2 with 605 daily flights. This is closely followed by Christmas Day and Christmas Eve with 596 and 594 daily flights. Passengers using the airport are expected to top 130,000 on each of these days.

 

On an average day, there are about 560 passenger flights and 110,000 passengers.

 

Flights between South East Asia and Hong Kong account for 48% of the additional flights. North-East Asia and the Mainland account for 45% and 7%.

 

The most popular destinations are Seoul, Sapporo and Phuket, each with 28 additional flights, followed by Kota Kinabalu, Laoag and Bangkok.
