The fourth Pan Pan Pearl River Delta Science & Technology Co-operation Conference will be held in Hong Kong next September.

The move was confirmed at the third Pan PRD Science & Technology Co-operation Conference in Changsha, Hunan, on December 11.

Commissioner for Innovation & Technology Anthony Wong joined representatives from Guangdong, Fujian, Jianxi, Hunan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan and Hainan Provinces, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Macau at the conference.

Further progress

Other issues were also agreed upon, such as to establish the mode of operation of the Pan PRD Science & Technology Co-operation Conference and set up an office to support the conference work.

They will jointly compile the Strategic Plan for Pan PRD Regional Co-operation in Science & Technology 2005-2010 for consideration next year.

A special working group will be set up to look into the proposals of establishing a platform for science and technology exchange and sharing of resources, and setting up a mechanism for co-operation in technology areas of common interest.

Members also agreed to strengthen exchange in science and technology within the region.
