A two-month consultation has been launched inviting views on the review on alcoholic beverages duty. The Government wants to know whether the trade and the community think any changes to the existing duty regime should be made.
In the 2004-05 Budget Speech, Financial Secretary Henry Tang said there have been suggestions to reduce the duty to stimulate tourism and business, and the Government would keep this tax item under review.
The consultation forms part of the review and will run until February 2. Suggestions can be to the Financial Services & the Treasury Bureau by post (4/F, Central Government Offices, Main Wing, Lower Albert Road, Central), by fax (2530 5921) or email (liquor@fstb.gov.hk).
The consultation document has been sent to Legislative Councillors, political parties, chambers of commerce and other concerned bodies.
From December 6, people can obtain the document from the office of the Customs & Excise Department at the 2/F, Harbour Building, Central, and District Offices.
