The volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods in July rose 17%, compared with the same month last year, while that of domestic exports fell 4.8%. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods increased by 15.3%.
At the same time, the volume of imports of goods increased 14.7%.
Releasing the volume and price statistics of external merchandise trade for July, the Census & Statistics Department said when comparing the first seven months of 2004 and 2003, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods rose 7.4%, and that of domestic exports 1.6%.
Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods grew 16.3%. In the same period, goods imports increased 17.3% in volume.
Comparing the three-month period ending July with the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports of goods increased 1.8%.
Within this total, the volume of re-exports increased 2%, while that of domestic exports fell 1.3%. The volume of goods imports increased 1.7%.
In the first seven months of 2004 over the same period in 2003, the prices of re-exports of goods increased 0.2%, while those of domestic exports were virtually unchanged.
Taken together, the prices of total goods exports increased 0.2% while the prices of goods imports increased 1.9%.
