Outward processing exports up 22%

About $101.4 billion of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland in this year's second quarter were for outward processing, up 22% over a year earlier, the Census & Statistics Department says.

 

The value of domestic exports to the Mainland for outward processing dipped 2% to $6.5 billion while the value of re-exports rose 25% to $95 billion.

 

The value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing grew 22% to $161 billion, while $165.3 billion of the city's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the Mainland, up 13%.

 

In the first half of the year, $172.8 billion of Hong Kong's total exports to the Mainland were for outward processing, up 16% over the same period of last year.  The value of domestic exports to the Mainland for outward processing fell 5% to $11.1 billion whereas re-exports rose 18% to $161.7 billion.

 

The value of imports from the Mainland related to outward processing rose 18% to $291.6 billion, while $314.6 billion of the city's re-exports of Mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the Mainland, up 14%.
