Hong Kong's foreign currency reserve assets amounted to US$118.5 billion at the end of August, up US$200 million on the previous month.

The Monetary Authority said the amount represents more than six times the currency in circulation, or 45% of Hong Kong dollar M3.

Hong Kong is the world's fifth largest holder of foreign currency reserves after Japan, the Mainland, Taiwan and South Korea.
