The Chief Executive-in-Council has approved the renewal of Cable TV's domestic pay television programme service licence for another 12 years, from June 1.
Cable TV has undertaken to continue to invest in programme acquisition to meet the diverse needs of viewers, and to launch a new text channel to cater to the needs of the hearing impaired.
Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology John Tsang said the Broadcasting Authority is satisfied with Cable TV's performance.
A public opinion survey found 90% of subscribers considered its programme quality satisfactory and 78% were satisfied with the diversity of its service.
"The renewal of the licence will enable the local pay television market to continue to develop in a competitive environment, and to provide greater variety of programmes to consumers," he said.
