The volume of Hong Kong's re-exports rose 29.9% in February over the same month last year, and domestic exports increased 11.1%. Taken together, the volume of total exports of goods rose substantially, by 28.6%. Concurrently, the volume of imports rose significantly, by 32.4%.
Comparing the first two months of 2004 with the same period in 2003, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports rose 15.4%, while that of domestic exports fell 2.2%. Taken together, the volume of total exports grew 14.1%. Concurrently, imports of goods rose 16.1% in volume.
Comparing the three-month period ending February with the preceding three months on a seasonally adjusted basis, the volume of total exports rose 6.2%. Within this, the volume of re-exports rose 6.8%, while domestic exports fell 1.3%. Concurrently, the volume of imports rose 5.5%.
Comparing February with the same month last year, the prices of re-exports fell 0.6%, and those of domestic exports by 0.2%. Taken together, the prices of total exports fell 0.6%. Concurrently, the prices of imports rose 0.7%.
On price changes in the first two months of 2004, over the same period in 2003, the prices of re-exports fell 0.9%, and those of domestic exports by 0.4%. Taken together, the prices of total exports were down 0.8%. Concurrently, the prices of imports rose 0.5%.
