Frederick Lam named TDC Executive Director

Frederick Lam
Experienced recruit: Frederick Lam will take over as the TDC's Executive Director on May 1.
*

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council announced today the appointment of Frederick Lam as Executive Director to succeed Michael Sze, who will retire on May 1.

The appointment was made with the consent of the Chief Executive and after a nine-month global recruitment exercise involving two executive search firms.

The firms reported to a Council search committee headed by TDC Chairman Peter Woo, consisting of the Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology and three other members.

Mr Lam was greatly honoured by his appointment. "I am keenly aware of the pressure on TDC to stay ahead and stay relevant in a fast-changing world. The challenge Michael Sze has set his successor is to take a very good organisation and make it even better."

Wealth of experience

The search committee recognised Mr Lam's ability and contributions over the years. He had spearheaded many innovations and service improvements at TDC.

"Mr. Lam has also been effective at the front line of trade promotion overseas, standing up for Hong Kong SMEs in tough situations," Mr Woo added.

Mr Lam, 45, joined TDC in 1986 and has been a deputy executive director since 1993. He currently oversees the Council's international promotion of Hong Kong's trade in products and services, as well as its global network of branch offices. He also oversees the Council's portfolio of exhibitions and trade publications.
