9-month deficit hit $71b at end-December

The deficit stood at $71 billion for the first nine months of this financial year, the Government announced today.

 

Expenditure for the period April to December 2003 amounted to $182 billion while revenues came to $111 billion, resulting in the $71 billion deficit.

 

Financial Secretary Henry Tang will provide an up-to-date assessment of the expected deficit for the entire financial year in his Budget Speech on March 10, 2004.

 

The fiscal reserves stood at $244.5 billion on December 31, 2003.
