John Tsang to attend World Economic Forum
*

Secretary for Commerce, Industry & Technology John Tsang will head a delegation of Hong Kong business leaders and government officials to the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland from January 21 to 24.

 

The theme of this year's forum is "Partnering for Security and Prosperity", with three themes: ensuring global security, promoting global growth and spurring innovation.

 

The meeting will provide a platform for the world's business elite and political leaders to lay the groundwork for sustained growth and development.

 

Mr Tsang has been invited to lead discussions in a workshop titled, "Will China or India Become Asia's Economic Power".

 

Address to update delegates on HK's development

He will also host a dinner reception for leading business executives, academics and media representatives, during which he will deliver a keynote speech to update the forum's members on  Hong Kong's economic development after SARS and the signing of the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement.

 

While in Davos, Mr Tsang will meet with World Trade Organisation Director-General Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi.

 

He will also take the opportunity to attend an Informal Ministerial Meeting hosted by the Swiss Government to discuss progress in the Doha Development Agenda.

Mr Tsang will return to Hong Kong on January 24.

 

The Hong Kong delegation comprises:

* James Hughes-Hallett, Chairman, John Swire & Sons (HK) Ltd;

* Michael Butcher, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, PCCW Ltd;

* Manoj Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific Region, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu;

* Yat Siu, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Outblaze Ltd; and

* Joshua Law, Hong Kong's Permanent Representative to the WTO.
