Hong Kong Disneyland has maintained a policy of providing equal employment opportunities for all employees and applicants including the disabled, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Rita Lau says.

Mrs Lau told lawmakers today the park offers jobs according to the characteristics and requirements of individual posts. Disabled people are also considered for the posts if it is considered safe for them to perform the tasks required.

Since its opening, the park has employed 300 disabled staff. For non-discriminatory reasons, it does not require disclosure of disabilities by their staff members.

"[Its] policy of equal treatment of disabled employees is applicable to promotion, demotion, transfer, layoff, termination, rate of pay and other forms of compensation, education, and training," Mrs Lau said.

Currently it is estimated the park employs more than 60 disabled, including 24 Disability Apprenticeship Programme participants to be hired this month. They are responsible for work including catering, guest services and sales. Most are part-time staff.
