Six secondary students have achieved Hong Kong's best results in the China Mathematical Olympiad, winning the city's first gold medal, plus two silver and three bronze medals.
The contest ran from January 20 to 25 in Chongqing. A total of 223 secondary students from 35 teams participated, including those from Mainland provinces, Hong Kong, Macau, Russia and Singapore.
Queen's College secondary six student Ching Tak-wing achieved the second-highest score at the event to win a gold medal. With another gold medal from the International Mathematical Olympiad in Germany last July, Ching is also the first Hong Kong team member to win two golds in six months in national and international mathematical competitions.
The silver medallists were La Salle College's Chung Ping-ngai and Ying Wa College's Yip Hok-pan, while La Salle College's Yu Tak-hei, Ying Wa College's Li Yau-wing and STFA Leung Kau Kui College's Ng Ngai-fung won bronze.
