The third report on teachers' continuing professional development recommends continuing the present soft approach to reinforce teachers' professional development, says the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education & Qualifications.
The committee today issued the report on the progress of teachers' continuing professional development, and makes recommendations for the way forward.
Advisory committee chairman Cheung Pak-hong said the report carries findings of a study the committee conducted in the 2007-08 school year. It showed most teachers have been actively participating in professional development activities to enhance their skills.
The committee considers that the future of teacher professional development should capitalise on the existing strengths and focus on quality and effectiveness.
"Our deliberations aim to provide space and flexibility for schools and teachers to plan, organise and participate in activities that will best cater to their needs. We look forward to the continued support and collaboration of all stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of the proposals as outlined in this report," Mr Cheung said.
The Education Bureau has endorsed the committee's recommendations. It will continue to provide resources to schools to support teachers' professional development.
The report will be distributed from June 22. Schools may call 3150 8039 for enquiries.
