Children joining the Primary One Admission System for September who have yet to secure a discretionary place can be allocated a government or aided primary school place by taking part in central allocation on Saturday or Sunday.
The Education Bureau has invited parents to make their school choices at a specified centre. Each centre will operate 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4.30pm on the two days.
Parents should return completed choice forms to the same centre on those two days. Those who have not received an invitation should call 2832 7700.
Under the admission system Hong Kong is divided into 36 school nets. Ten percent of a school's P1 places for central allocation are for unrestricted school choices. Parents can make up to three school choices in or outside the school net in which they live. The remaining 90% are for restricted school choices and parents should select the primary schools available in their school net in order of their preference.
The computer-programmed central allocation will process the unrestricted school choices prior to the restricted ones. For oversubscribed schools the order of priority in allocating places will be determined by computer-generated random numbers.
Call 2891 0088 for enquiries about central allocation procedures. Allocation results will be released June 6.
Parents should inform the bureau of any home address changes as soon as possible so they can choose a place in the right school net. Applications will be rendered void and school places withdrawn if parents give a false address.
The bureau has put in place a monitoring mechanism to verify residential addresses and random checks have been enhanced. Report suspected cases on 2832 7700.
