Financial aid set for late firemen's families

*

The families of late firemen Siu Wing-fong and Chan Siu-lung will receive $3.15 million and $3.78 million from the Government.

The grants were approved by the Committee on Financial Assistance for Family Members of those who Sacrifice their Lives to Save Others.

The officers died searching for and rescuing people trapped in the Cornwall Court fire in Mong Kok on August 10.

Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung, who chairs the committee, praised the firemen for their gallantry, saying they displayed utmost bravery and selfless devotion to the community during the rescue.

He said the grants represent the Government's recognition of their act of exceptional courage and gallantry of the highest order, and hope the assistance will provide some financial relief to their families.
