The average monthly salaries for middle-level managerial and professional employees in all major sectors surveyed taken together rose 3.4% in nominal terms in June over a year earlier, the Census & Statistics Department says.

After discounting the rise in consumer prices, the real salary index increased 1.5%.

Analysed by economic sector and on a year-on-year comparison in nominal terms, the average monthly salaries for middle-level managerial and professional employees increased in all major sectors, ranging from 1% to 4%.

After netting out the increase in consumer prices, the real indices in June increased 2.1% for the financial institutions and insurance sector; 2% the wholesale, retail and import-export trades sector; 0.9% the building and construction and related trades sector; and 0.3% the transport, storage and communications sector.

As for the manufacturing and electricity and gas sector, a decrease of 0.9% was registered.

In June 69% of the surveyed staff were entitled to profit-sharing bonuses, up four percentage points over 65% last year. Those entitled to guaranteed year-end extra bonuses and housing benefits of some kind were 54% and 20%, similar to 57% and 18% last year.
