Police have arrested 15 suspected illegal workers and eight employers in a series of raids from August 21 to 30, in 26 spots in Chai Wan, North Point, Wan Chai, Western District, Tai Po and Discovery Bay.

Of the suspected illegal workers arrested, four were sales assistants in retail shops, four foot masseurs in a shop and two worked on covered renovation sites. The others worked as a waiter, food delivery worker, repair worker and general worker.

All of them came from the Mainland. Twelve held valid two-way permits while three were overstayers. Most of them were from Guangdong.

Eight employers or persons-in-charge of the workplaces where suspected illegal workers were found were taken to Police stations for investigation.

Senior Labour Officer Ernest Ip said 115 joint operations with the Labour and Immigration Departments have been conducted since January to combat illegal employment. Vigorous action will continue to deter these illegal activities. People can call 2815 2200 to report illegal employment activities. All information provided will be handled in strict confidence.
