Education body election invites nominations

*

Nominations for the seventh election of the Council on Professional Conduct in Education are now open, the Education & Manpower Bureau says.

Each day school may nominate one serving regular registered teacher, including school head, to stand for election.

Teachers may also run for election as independent candidates if they have the support of 60 serving teachers in the same type of school.

Education organisations approved to join the Hong Kong Teachers' Centre as an organisation-member are also eligible to make nominations.

The council has 28 seats in three categories - organisation-nominated (11), teacher-nominated (14) and Permanent Secretary for Education & Manpower-appointed members (3).

Elected candidates will serve a two-year term on the council from May 2006, to April 2008.

Deadline: March 7

Nominations should reach the bureau not later than noon on March 7 and voting for teacher-nominated category will be held on April 25.
