12,000 to be trained
The programme this year will be launched in two phases, offering training for 12,000. The training period will last six to nine months, with phase one starting September and phase two in February.
Training courses on catering services, sports and design will be enhanced this year to meet market demand and young people's interests. New courses on all-in-one wedding services training and airline passenger services will be provided.
The experience scheme provides up to 12 months' on-the-job training for people aged 15 to 24 with sub-degree educational attainment.
It provides a 40-hour induction course for participants without prior interpersonal and job search skills training to help them acquire job search, interview, communication and interpersonal skills; and to cultivate a positive work attitude, discipline and team spirit.
Registered social workers will act as case managers to offer personalised career counselling and support. Participants will be engaged as trainees by employers and receive up to 12 months' on-the-job training under the guidance of mentors.
Financial help
Employers will receive a monthly subsidy of $2,000 per trainee. Trainees can enrol in suitable vocational training courses and claim reimbursement for the course fee of up to $4,000 if they have an attendance rate of 90% or have attained the qualification.
The scheme offers a variety of tailor-made employment projects to cater for the needs and interests of trainees. This year, new projects like "Salesmanship of Digital Products", "Cookery Skills", "Customer Services Officer" and "Real Estate Agent" will be launched while tailor-made projects like "IT Seeds", "Travel Pioneer" and "IT consultant" will also be offered.
