Marine Department commendations
Selfless acts: 16 people have been recognised for their efforts in saving others at their own risk in local waters.
*

Sixteen people have been commended for risking their lives to save others in Hong Kong waters last year.

The award recipients are nine Police officers, three staff members of the Hong Kong Pilots Association Limited and four civilians.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Director of Marine Roger Tupper thanked them for their selfless and public-spirited acts.

Mr Tupper said the department will continue its partnership with the Marine Police and the Leisure & Cultural Services Department to launch a safety campaign. A seminar and other publicity activities will also be arranged.

In addition, the Marine Department will work with the Marine Police to step up law enforcement to deter speeding and other reckless boating behaviour. More patrols in popular beaches and water sports sites will also be conducted.
