The Electoral Affairs Commission has gazetted three amendment regulations on the registration of electors. They will be tabled at the Legislative Council July 8.
The amendments are required to tie in with the provisions in the Voting by Imprisoned Persons Ordinance and to provide the related practical arrangements. The Electoral Registration Officer can make available for inspection all types of omissions lists at an additional place to facilitate the officer in catering to requests for inspection from prisoners or people held in custody.
Prisoners or people held in custody can deliver a notice of objection or claim by post, instead of having to deliver the notice in person.
The Electoral Registration Officer can enter an elector's record on the omissions lists without asking for their registered address, if the elector concerned is a prisoner registered to a "deemed" address as prescribed in the Legislative Council Ordinance and has left the prison without reporting their new address to the officer.
