Household spending survey to be held

*
Census & Statistics Department

The Census & Statistics Department will conduct the latest Household Expenditure Survey from next October to September 2010 to study spending patterns, Commissioner and Chairman of the Statistics Advisory Board Fung Hing-wang says.

The survey is conducted every five years. Preparatory work for the study has started and the results will be released in April and May 2011.

Mr Fung said planning is also underway for the 2011 Population Census in which respondents will be able to submit data via post or online, along with the conventional face-to-face interviews.

At the board's meeting today, Mr Fung also briefed members on the methodology and main findings of a survey on people with disabilities and chronic diseases conducted as a Special Topic Enquiry through the General Household Survey from November 2006 to December 2007.

The survey collected information on the basic profiles of people with selected types of disabilities and chronic diseases in Hong Kong, serving as useful reference for the planning and development of rehabilitation services. Survey results will be announced by year's end.
