Chief Executive Donald Tsang has appointed Lau Kong-wah to the Executive Council effective October 15, accepting Jasper Tsang's resignation from it.

He said Mr Lau has rich experience in the Legislative Council and in district work, and his acceptance of the appointment shows his firm commitment to serving the community.

"I am confident he will offer invaluable advice to the Executive Council and contribute to facilitating communication between the executive authorities and the legislature," he said.

The Chief Executive thanked Jasper Tsang for his dedicated service and wise counsel since July 2002, offering him his best wishes as he becomes Legislative Council president.
