Secretary for Development Carrie Lam and Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Rita Lau have offered condolences to the family of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Senior Director for Business Policy Dr Chan Wai-kwan who died in Spain October 8.

Dr Chan also served on the Town Planning Board, the Antiquities Advisory Board and the Harbour-front Enhancement Committee.

Mrs Lam said she was shocked and saddened to learn of his sudden death.

"Throughout the past two decades Dr Chan has devoted a lot of his time in serving the community through his active participation in many statutory and advisory bodies," she said.

Mrs Lau said his contribution to the promotion of trade, service industry and tourism was well recognised.

"I will always remember him both as a trusted friend and a reliable working partner."
