Hong Kong's proposal to participate in the Urban Best Practice Area Exhibition at the World Exposition 2010 in Shanghai has been accepted.

The Government will seek approval from the Legislative Council for funds to participate in the expo, and will collaborate with local creative industries on its exhibit.

Titled Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life, Hong Kong's proposal features its Octopus and Smart ID smartcard systems to demonstrate how the city extensively uses innovative ways to improve efficiency and promote connectivity.

The Government also plans to construct a Hong Kong pavilion and organise promotion activities.

The expo will be held in Shanghai May 1 to October 31, 2010. As at last month 197 places and international organisations have so far signed up for the event which is expected to attract more than 70 million visitors.
