Donald Tsang meets Chen Deming
Enhanced ties: Chief Executive Donald Tsang meets with Commerce Minister Chen Deming in Beijing.
*

Hong Kong will take part in the Guangdong government's study on deepening mutual co-operation between the two jurisdictions in all areas, Chief Executive Donald Tsang says.

Discussing his Beijing trip with the media today, Mr Tsang said he met with Guangdong Party Secretary Wang Yang in Beijing who said he wants to adopt new thinking in enhancing Guangdong-Hong Kong co-operation.

Mr Tsang said the study will include ways to enhance cross-boundary infrastructure co-operation and extend Hong Kong's service sector in Guangdong. He said more co-operation will benefit both jurisdictions' development.

Noting the consensus reached on financing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Mr Tsang said the next step is to quickly finish the scrutiny of the engineering feasibility report and to start preparatory work for tendering so the project can start.

Provincial opportunities

Yesterday Mr Tsang met the State Council's Office for Revitalising Northeast China Director Zhang Guobao to discuss advance work for his plan to lead a trade delegation to three northeast provinces later this year.

Noting the rapid growth in these provinces in recent years, Mr Tsang said the tour will enhance understanding of the economic, social and development situation there, boost exchange and co-operation, and tap trade and investment opportunities.

Mr Tsang also called on Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu this morning and discussed the scheme to liberalise the immigration regime to make it easier for non-local graduates to stay and work in Hong Kong to attract quality students. He added the Immigration Department and Mainland Public Security Ministry will further deliberate on the arrangements.

Later, he met General Administration of Sport Director Liu Peng and Commerce Minister Chen Deming.
