A Legislative Council by-election will be held December 2 to fill a vacancy in the Hong Kong Island geographical constituency. The seat was vacated following the death of Ma Lik.

The Electoral Affairs Commission today said the nomination period will start in mid-October and will be gazetted soon.

To avoid confusing electors, the commission considered it inappropriate to hold the by-election on the same day as the District Council ordinary election on November 18.
